000826 -- Red Prison -- part I ============================== AUTHOR: dsweet COMPOSED: 9/26/00 UPDATED: 9/26/00 STORY: The small flat rounded objects they received when they first entered the valley have one button and a lens. With a little experimentation and a tree sacrificed it is determined to be a small blaster. It takes two days to get to the valley floor. They decide to build a raft and float down the river world they believe they are in. Two days into the raft construction the group encounters slave recruiters. The slavers are block like creatures three feet tall and about three feet wide. They are not fat but are instead amazingly muscular. Their captives are eight feet tall and quite thin. The tall thin creatures are fair skinned but they are painted red from head to toe. Their hair is clumpped into triangular dreadlocks. Two of the three slavers rush into the clearing where the raft is being built apparently to collect more slaves. The last one stays with all of the chained slaves. The fight ensues. The active members of the party hide in the trees and attack the slavers. Rick's well aimed blaster releases the slaves, but frees up a slaver to attack his friends. With the generous use of blaster fire one slaver is killed, one is captured, and the other runs off. The slavers use magic and this scares the group. The use of darkness and short range teleportation makes the group believe one of the slavers gated in another. The slavers also demostrated telekentic abilities as well. Since the slaves have rushed off, the active group members follow decide to track them. After alot of cat and mouse like games the slaves give up running. They set up an ambush with some fellow creatures of their race. The will-be-heroes find themselves at spear point. With a little diplomacy the creatures who identify themselves as Malarites put down their spears. The Malarites have a limited vocabulary but they discover the basic players in the valley. They are the Red Malarites not to be confused with the Green Malarites who are "Bad". The slavers are called Tanars. There are something called Vorrs and apparently they are not very nice. Downstream runs into a dam like structure guarded by men and rocks with "boom sticks". Before both groups go their own ways, Amber is marked as a friend of the Red Malarites. While travelling with the captive Tanar the group is attacked by Vorr which are Somalian children with distended bellies an all. They have long needle like fangs and claws. They immdediately attack the weakest looking members of the party. The Tanar is tied up and as such the weakest. When the Vorr attack they do not wait to start snacking. Eventually, only the Tanar is being attacked so the party steps away. The Tanar is quite dead. The raft is complete when they arrive back with the main group. So they decide to drift down stream.
